  • 1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • In a bowl, mix flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla to the dry ingredients, stirring until combined.
  • Spread the batter in the prepared dish.
  • In a separate bowl, mix remaining sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the batter.
  • Carefully pour boiling water over the entire mixture (do not stir).
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden and a thick, syrupy sauce forms at the bottom.
  • Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
