Ingredients

Scale
  • For the filling:
    • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
    • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • For the salted caramel sauce:
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 6 tbsp butter, cubed
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • 1 tsp sea salt
  • For the crust:
    • 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  • Prepare the caramel sauce: In a saucepan, heat sugar and water over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let it cook until it turns a deep amber color. Remove from heat and carefully whisk in butter, cream, and sea salt. Let cool slightly.
  • Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, toss apple slices with granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  • Assemble the pie: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out one pie crust and place it into a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture, then drizzle about half of the salted caramel sauce over the apples.
  • Top the pie: Cover with the second pie crust, crimp the edges, and cut slits for steam to escape.
  • Bake the pie: Bake for 45-50 minutes until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.
  • Serve: Let the pie cool slightly, drizzle with extra salted caramel sauce, and sprinkle with sea salt before serving.

Notes

  • Use a combination of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
  • For extra richness, serve the pie with vanilla ice cream.
  • Make sure to save some caramel sauce for drizzling on top!
