Ingredients:

  • 1 medium (150g) apple, peeled and diced into small cubes
  • 1 tbsp (14g) unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp (25g) packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp (1g) ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (45g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup (240ml) water
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
  • 1 tbsp (12g) maple syrup

Instructions:

  1. Melt 1 tbsp (14g) unsalted butter over medium heat in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the diced apple, 2 tbsp (25g) packed brown sugar, and 1/2 tsp (1g) ground cinnamon to the pan; stir occasionally for about 5 minutes until the apples are tender and coated in a glossy amber glaze.
  3. Add 1/2 cup (45g) old-fashioned rolled oats to the pan and stir for 1 minute to toast the oats in the butter and sugar mixture until a nutty aroma develops.
  4. Pour in 1 cup (240ml) water, 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, and 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt.
  5. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the liquid is absorbed and the oats have a velvety, thick consistency.
  6. Remove the pan from heat and stir in 1 tbsp (12g) maple syrup before serving.
