Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked pasta (e.g., macaroni or penne)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 (12 oz) can tuna in water, drained
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the onion until softened.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, creating a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese and parmesan until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Mix the cooked pasta, tuna, and peas into the sauce. Combine well.
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle breadcrumbs and extra cheese on top.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For added crunch, mix the breadcrumbs with a little melted butter before sprinkling on top.
  • Swap tuna for cooked chicken or salmon for variation.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
